Clinton Health Access Initiative - 1st and 2nd Year Combined EIS (Public Interest: Non-Profit)

Clinton Health Access Initiative is hosting a 1st and 2nd Year Combined EIS on Thursday, February 02, 2012 at 12:15 PM. The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world and expanding access to care and treatment for HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. CHAI’s solution-oriented approach focuses on improving market dynamics for medicines and diagnostics; lowering prices for treatment; accelerating access to life-saving technologies; and helping governments build the capacity required for high-quality care and treatment programs. Established in 2002 by President Clinton as the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative, CHAI initially focused on addressing the limited access to HIV/AIDS treatment faced by developing countries, where more than 90 percent of individuals living with HIV/AIDS reside. By working in collaboration with governments and NGO partners, CHAI has been able to expand treatment access and save lives.CHAI hires MBA students every year for summer internships in our primary regions of focus: Africa, the Caribbean, and Southeast Asia. Potential projects span a wide scope of areas that we work on in global public health. CHAI applies a unique business-oriented approach to changing the market for medicines and diagnostics and supporting developing countries to scale up HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs through three main programs:Access Programs: CHAI’s Access Programs work with generic pharmaceutical companies and other suppliers to reduce the cost of lifesaving antiretroviral medicines, testing and diagnostic equipment, malaria treatment, and nutrition. Major Programs: CHAI’s Major Programs specialize in specific areas of need, including pediatric treatment, increasing access to care and treatment in rural areas, strengthening countries’ human resource capacity for health, and preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child. In-country Programs: To ensure that governments can aggressively expand access to HIV/AIDS care and treatment, CHAI assists national governments and their ministries of health to develop sound health care policies around HIV/AIDS, strengthen management capacity, and implement cost-effective and comprehensive national responses to this epidemic. Speaking at the EIS will be:Kate Schroder, Senior Director of the Essential Medicines Initiative at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) (Wharton Alumna)Anna Skender, Recruitment Manager at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI)We cannot support individuals’ work authorizations for the US, but most of our hiring is for overseas positions in which case there are very few restrictions as to who we hire.SPEAKER BIO: Kate Schroder is the Senior Director of the Essential Medicines Initiative at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), which aims to reduce the number of children who die annually from diarrhea by improving acces
